I agree with Frank. My belt began to squeak recently, and I checked the belt tension. It was way too tight. I had it adjusted under warranty, although I watched the mechanic do it and believe me, you don't have to be a rocket scientist to do it properly. With regards to your "popping" noises, I've had only two since I bought the bike 1600 miles ago. I somehow feel left out.
